Today I had the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving with the women at Vickery Trading Company (VTC). VTC is a social business providing vocational training, personal development, and fair wages to refugee women, right here in Dallas. For many of the Associates in the program, VTC has the privilege of handing them their very first paycheck. This income provides for needs such as food, clothing and shelter for the Associates and their families.

They practice English immersion in the VTC office. Women must speak English while at work. This, in combination with ESL (English as a Second Language) classes, helps them learn English so they are able to communicate with people, such as teachers or doctors, without their children acting as translators.

To learn more about how VTC empowers refugee women and equips them for life in the United States or to shop their merchandise, please check them out here.
